Facebook free mode as the name implies allows you to use basic Facebook features without having a data or Wi-Fi connection. When Facebook started the Facebook Mobile initiative, its main aim was to make Facebook services available for everybody.
The Facebook free mode feature was released on the 18th of May 2010 as a way to make sure Facebook users can access its services without a bandwidth connection. Although it does have some cons as it does not allow you to use all Facebook features.
This mode works best on Airtel and 9mobile networks and also on the Facebook lite app. The Facebook app comes in two editions, the regular Facebook app, and the Facebook lite app. The Facebook lite app is the smaller version of the Facebook app which makes it conservative.
Although it functions slowly and does not have all the features as the regular Facebook app, it is for devices with small processors. The Facebook lite app was created for devices with a poor internet connection so it makes sense to say the Facebook free mode works best on it.
Free internet browsing is becoming quite a thing among internet platforms around and one of their most frequent partners is Airtel. Take Opera, for instance, it also offers almost the same free mode Facebook does in partnership with Airtel.
Leaving that aside, how do you access the Facebook free Mode.
Use Facebook Free Mode
It’s easy to access. Just sign in to your Facebook account, look to the top and tap on the “Free Mode” option at the top. Most times the option only appears when there is no data connection on your device. Before you try this out, turn off your data or Wi-Fi connection and navigate to your Facebook app.
Also, you could open your web browser and search “www.freefacebook.com”. Sign in to your account by entering your login details (mobile number or email address and password) and clicking on “Sign In”. This will take you to your Facebook account in free mode.
You will discover that you won’t be able to view any media contents on your news feed, all you’d see is written contents and. But there is a way to correct this.
